Banned Books

Has it ever struck you that many of our favorite books have been banned in the last few centuries by countless communities?
Many of the classics I treasure have been banned and removed from libraries and bookstores because of explicit content. Being an author myself, I want all types of literature to be read by everyone. I love getting glimpses of what it is like to be thrown in hardships. I want to learn more about the Holocaust and different illnesses, for we read to learn about new perspectives. As I invariably say, writing is not possible without reading. Here is an article I wrote about my thoughts on censored novels:

It is absolutely unacceptable for libraries and schools to restrict certain reading material. Students should be permitted to read as they wish. Certain books have been banned for offensive or inappropriate content. However, I believe that teachers should endeavor to encourage their students to read a variety of books. For example, The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank is a memoir that recounts the horrifying experiences of a teenager that spent two years hiding in The Secret Annex during the Holocaust. This novel has enraptured numerous readers since the twentieth century. It has now become a modern classic. The definitive edition of this book is more detailed than the first version. It includes vivid descriptions of sexuality and conversations with her mother. The graphic and explicit facts mentioned in this book are what caused the ban of this literary work. This book is inspirational. It depicts the horrors of war in an extremely realistic manner. It taught me to become a more optimistic person. This book shall continue to be taught to students in English and history classes.  It is a sublime piece of literature, which is salient for the education and knowledge of both children and adults. Another example of a book that should not be banned is Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Caroll. It is a classic fantasy novel with a few historical fiction elements. It is the story of a young girl named Alice. It follows her adventures in Wonderland after she falls into a rabbit hole. This book includes themes like friendship and accepting one another. It is another indispensable piece of literature that should be read by children and adults. This book taught me that magic can be real at times. It has delighted generations of readers. This book was banned because it features talking animals. I believe that students have the right to transport themselves to a fictional world. In the process, they will learn about new perspectives. Some parts of this book are written in an absurd manner. The nonsensical writing in this does not adhere to any rules, and that is why I love it. If this book were to be banned, we would be deprived of such an entertaining story. There were other books like The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. These books were also banned. I disagree with anyone who shall dare to ban any of these books. Anne Frank’s diary may be extremely dark but it captures the reality of what happened during that time period. Alice in Wonderland is a fantasy story that will relax us and get us out of our comfort zone. These books have no right to be banned, for they have had a lasting impact on readers.
